welcome. i still haven't decided whether having my own blog is no more than a ridiculous self-indulgence that, at best, will end after six months with zero comments and my head in the oven. however, i've convinced myself that i have something to say. after all, there are only about a million other websites that concern themselves with that celebrated grand prix of song and culture that is the Eurovision Song Contest. and, in my opinion, that is one too few.

let's just see what happens. happy 2007 - only 127 days to go.

The last 10 years? Ortal, if you are reading this: I haven't forgotten you: Thompson Pense à Toi aaaaoooow. Seriously though I do think that Tellier was exciting: not like anything ever to cross a Eurovision stage and even though he sung in English, the whole way team France approached the contest last year was very, well... French. Kaas is the present day embodiment of the Chanson tradition. It is exciting that an artist of such renown has agreed to do this contest with a song of such quality. My first listen gave me echoes of Brel's 'Ne Me Quitte Pas' and the thought that France will leave Moscow with its dignity intact and not as many points as it deserves. I hope the returning juries see that this is not the case. My second thought is, that over my time watching this contest , as well as some real classy chansons (notably the 2001-2002 double) and a few wobbles in the wilderness (see HMSS Naya ) France, possibly more than any other country has had a knack for throw

You see I've already waited too long ...and all my hope is gone. Now is today. D-day for the UK. Finally. Almost all my hope is gone but in spite of all the signs, I am still frantically clinging to the dream that there will be some decency in the UK selection for Eurovision. The unveiling of what lays in store is set to take place at a secret glamorous West End location later today. ‘Best Kebab’ on Charing Cross road then. I thought I should write now while a sliver of hope still exists and there is still a tiny window for speculation; (even though it looks like our collective fate is sealed).
