YCNY(AWCGSMIA): Live Semi Final Thoughts

Even through the botox, Lulu is obviously hating having Boom-bang-a-bang shoved in her face in the opening. Great.

Mark: First performance: dancing is acceptable but he has all the sex appeal of Andy Peters. Second performance: Tim Vincent with the sincerity of a used cars salesman. If you don't want to talk about it would you mind not singing about it either?

The Twins: Danger! Danger! (medium to low voltage). After having murdered 'The Promise' by Girls Aloud last week and given a seriously lacklustre performance of Sugababes' 'About You Now' they give a cheese dripping but convincing performance of Everly Brothers 'Dream' that (I hate to say) comes out on right side of the cute/creepy divide. 'Outraged in Tumbridge Wells' will LAP this up. One thing is certain: if the twins go to Moscow it will end in tears.

Jade: Has not managed to recapture the magic of her first week. Not pitch perfect tonight (or "a little bit pitchy for me" to use the American Idol parlance) and some of it was a bit shouty. ALW talks about the importance of not turning the audience against an act by clearly favouring them but goes ahead and slabbers all over her anyway. Definitely deserves to win, but what would an ALW RnB song sound like exactly?

Also of note. I am going to have to check who the costume designer is. The dresses are dreadful. (Ruffled bodices, and Jade 'Thinking' in an outfit that may have been inspired by Salomé's 1969 get-up.) I suspect that it may be Linda Martin. (Not the same sainted individual whose flight came in on time but the BBC costume designer responsible for Samantha Janus' bodice almost 20 years ago in Rome. Different women, same taste in clothes.)

We could be in for a shock and Jade could be in the bottom two. It must almost certainly be the end of the road for The Emperors of Soul.
